Development of integrated waste management systems

Voluntary waste collection center in Vladeni Commune, Ialomita County

The project proposed by the municipality of Vlădeni aims to develop a modern and integrated system for the collection, storage, and recovery of locally generated manure. The investment addresses an acute problem facing the community: the improper management of animal waste from households and small farms, practices that lead to groundwater pollution with nitrates and bacteria, unpleasant odors, and the proliferation of insects.

Currently, most households in the commune raise animals in the vicinity of their homes, without having compliant storage platforms. This situation contributes significantly to the contamination of the water table, affecting the health of the population that uses water from wells for consumption.

The investment is designed to serve the entire target group of 835 households and small and medium-sized farms, totaling 1,531.15 LU (Livestock Units). By implementing a centralized manure management system, the municipality will be able to prevent nitrate pollution and ensure sustainable management of agricultural waste.

The long-term benefits of the project:

  • Reduction of the amount of nitrates reaching the groundwater and water bodies

  • Improved public health by reducing the risk of drinking water contamination

  • Improved environmental quality by eliminating uncontrolled storage, reducing odors, and limiting the occurrence of insects

Total investment value - 177,079 LEI
